As Colorado plunges deeper into the cultivation of cannabis a new oil is presenting itself to Steamboat Springs locals.  The powerful CBD Oil made from the Hemp plant is now being showcased in the CBD Oil Massage and CBD Oil Skin Care at Life Essentials Day Spa Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Will CBD Oil Make Me High?

No!  In fact, the higher the concentration of CBD oil in a hemp plant the lower the concentration of THC.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

In specific strains of hemp, the CDB OIl is a medicine used for thousands of years for everything from chronic pain to mental disorders.  Queen Victoria herself used a form of the oil for menstrual cramps. More about the healing nature of CDB OIl Massage later.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

Different strains of hemp plants are responsible for producing high levels of THC which do contain psychoactive properties.

Interestingly enough the Hemp grown for CBD contains less than 0.3% THC while the plants grown for THC contain trace amounts of CBD.

How Does this Work In A CBD Oil Massage?

Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids.   As children we all learn about the cardiovascular system, the immune system, and nervous system, but did you know about the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system discovered in 1992 balances our body and mind creating a state of homeostasis for healing and health.

According to Web MD

Cannabinoid receptors (molecules that bind cannabinoids) have been discovered in brain cells and nerve cells in other parts of the body. The presence of cannabinoid receptors on immune system cells suggests that cannabinoids may have a role in immunity.

It is the overall good feeling you have after a good work out, or a job well done, or a refreshing nights sleep.  Your own personal body produces these cannabinoids to heal and renew the body.

Simply, a CBD Oil Massage deeply triggers the thousands of cannabinoid receptors already at work in your body.  The CBD Oil stimulates the bodies own desire to heal itself during homeostasis.

Benefits of CBD OIl Massage

Helps Stop Inflammation

The poor quality of the American diet and hurried lifestyle decreases our bodies natural ability to fight inflammation.  Chronic inflammation is linked to many diseases, cancer altimeter and autoimmune according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information.  CDB meshes with the cannabinoid receptors in the body so well it can help reverse the effects of chronic inflammation.

Reduces Oxidative Stress

The body struggles against our toxic urban environment daily.  The bodies desire to neutralize free radicals with antioxidants often fails leading to oxidative stress, an overgrowth of damaging free radical cells.  A powerful antioxidant CDB also contains neuroprotective qualities.

Fights Chronic Pain

CDB connects with the neuro pathways to reduce chronic pain in cancer patients and fibromyalgia suffers.  New studies being conducted also show that it does not create dependence like the presently used opioids. Even more startling CBD prevents nervous system degeneration

Balances Anxiety and Stress

Currently, being studied as a treatment for PTSD and Anxiety disorders, CBD shows promise. CBD enhances the serotonergic and glutamate cortical receptors in the body.  Those suffering from depression struggle with the production of both serotonin and glutamate.

Choosing a CDB Oil Massage awakes the bodies natural ability to heal and balance itself.  Life Essentials Day Spa offers several strengths of CDB Massage Oils and a New Line of CBD Skin Care— Color Up Therapeutics.  Make your appointment today to experience the healing effects of CBD.

CBD Oil, a new craze for pot heads or a true medicine?  Living in Steamboat Springs Colorado, the testing ground for all things hemp in North America, provides a way to find an easy answer.

The healing properties of the hemp plant date back thousands of years.  Did you know your body already produces Cannabinoids? Hemp-based cannabinoids are termed phytocannabinoids that enhance your bodies own ability to heal.

Benefits of Hemp Derived CBD

Pain Relief

A natural analgesic for chronic pain and neuropathology.  Phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant readily bind with the cannabinoid receptors in our bodies.  Massaging in a CBD Oil provides pain relief without side effects.

Anti-inflammatory

As much as 80 percent of our health issues center on inflammation in our bodies.  Most inflammation is a result of stress, poor diet and lack of sleep–simple areas to change with major downsides if not changed.  Acne, psoriasis, arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) stem from or are increased by the high level of inflammation.  Remarkably, the simple use of CBD oil reduces or eliminates many of the symptoms of inflammation that cause these uncomfortable diseases.

Antidepressant

Looking for a natural way to move away from that blahh, blue feeling?   CBD Oil promotes alertness in wakeful states and regeneration of cells in sleep states.  The endocannabinoid system functions as a wellness connector for mind and body.

Neuroprotective

Get this!  While the other expressed oil in the Hemp plant (THC) causes psychoactive processes, CBD Oil does not.  In fact, CBD Oil helps relieve seizures. Its antipsychotic effects help schizophrenia and slow down Alzheimer’s.

Immune-Modulator

CBD Oil helps modulate immune function with massive antioxidant properties.  A game changer in the anti-aging arena the CBD Oil helps the body maintain healthy cell pairings and rebuild or repair cells damaged by free radicals.

Practical Information about CBD Oil

Will it make me high?

No, CBD contains little (0.3% or less) THC, the psychoactive part of the hemp plant.  All though, CBD Oil may give you a feeling of well being it will not have you reaching for the Cheetos and studying your hand endlessly.

Is CBD Legal?

Yes. The Agricultural Act of 2014 made CBD Oil with less than 0.3% THC legal in all 50 states.  Buyer beware, in 2016 the FDA found that many of the manufacturers were not living up to high standard of processing for CBD Oil.  While it did not contain THC, it also did not contain enough CBD Oil to provide any effectiveness.

What is the Most Effective Way to Administer CBD Oil?

Both External & Internal.  External applications with massage exhibit a 40% absorption rate. Externally CBD Oil provides phenomenal anti-aging results, chronic pain relief, and psoriasis mitigation

Internal dosage is by weight and type of disease.  The Medical New Times gives a few common use guidelines.  Checking with your medical professional before attempting internal use is recommended.

Where Can You Find CBD Oil?

Colorado, of course!  Want to try it in a beautiful day spa setting with a professionally trained massage therapist?

Life Essentials Day Spa, in Steamboat Springs, offers their clients the experience of high-grade CBD Oil Massages and Facials.  Come try this ancient healing oil for yourself.

Thanksgiving is a celebration of gratitude, of taking the time to appreciate all we have. In Steamboat Springs the trees are usually barren by Thanksgiving and the first snows have fallen. The cold outside makes the warmth of the indoors even more precious. Families reunite to play in the snow, share a meal and remember how wonderful life is.

Below are a few of the best ways to spend Thanksgiving in Steamboat.

1. Cook and take a moment to enjoy the flavor: There’s nothing better than a warm cooked meal with family on Thanksgiving. Go all out, add all the fixings and stuff yourself. Don’t forget the dessert of pumpkin pie, whipped cream, apple pie, cookies or whatever you like.

2. Relax: Take a nap, soak in a bath, or enjoy a massage or couple’s massage. The holidays are a great excuse to take a little down time. Sleep late, snuggle someone you love and be kind to yourself.

3. Give to others: Thanksgiving is about being thankful but also about giving. We recommend making a donation to a non-profit, volunteering your time or serving food to those in need. There are ways each of us can give. The reward for giving is so much greater than the reward of getting.

4. Appreciate Nature: The reason most people come to Steamboat is for the natural beauty. While you can watch the snow fall from inside, there is nothing like feeling snowflakes against your skin, the crunch of boots through the fallen leaves or through the champagne powder. The smells of winter will flood your senses and fill your soul.

5. Tell someone you love him or her. Love is so easy to give, but a lot of times we forget to tell those most important to us how much we love them. Three simple words can make all the difference in a person’s day or in a person’s life.

This Thanksgiving, don’t forget to give, to love and most importantly to take care of yourself. At Life Essentials Day Spa we will be thinking of all of you on Thanksgiving. If you want to come in and let us pamper you, we’d love to have you.

If you are a powder hound you’ve already been up on Buff Pass or Rabbit Ears with your rock skis making turns. It’s that season and it’s time to get your body ready for it. Here are our top five ways to get in shape for ski season.

1. Exercise different muscle groups. Every sport requires different muscle groups to perform. Overwork those muscles and you can have an injury on your hands. We recommend mixing up your workouts and your play. Try yoga or Pilates along with weight training and cardio exercise. Making sure your entire body is strong will help you perform your best this year.

2. Stay hydrated. At higher elevation it’s critical to keep your body hydrated. Dry muscles have a higher tendency of cramping up. Drink plenty of fluids including straight water. Electrolytes are good but there is no substitute for nature’s water.

3. Don’t go too hard until you are ready for it. There’s nothing like hiking into the backcountry and skiing or riding untouched terrain. Some people hike too far back and struggle to get out, or their muscles get tired and their performance gets sloppy. Build up to the longer outings.

4. Get a sports massage. Sports massage specifically targets the muscles you use when you work out. A massage from Life Essentials Day Spa can help loosen tight muscles, relax your body and get you ready for an epic season.

5. Eat healthy foods. Foods loaded with saturated fats and processed foods can really affect athletic performance. Stick to foods that came from the earth – vegetables, meat, and grains.

We hope this is an incredible season for you. When you are ready for some pampering or when you need someone to help relax your muscles, call Life Essentials Day Spa.

Steamboat has already had its first big snowstorm with six inches holding strong at the higher elevations. You may not think it’s time for winter, but after all, this is Steamboat and you pretty much have to be prepared for winter every month of the year. Before the snow gets good enough to ski, ride, snowshoe or snowmobile here are a few things you can do when the first snows fall.

1. Stick your tongue out and catch a snowflake.

2. Build a snowman/snowwoman. Steamboat is known for its champagne powder that is too light to pack a snowball much less a snowman but early season snows tend to be wet enough to pack in a solid snow sculpture.

3. Make a fire. If you are lucky enough to have a wood-burning fireplace, go out and chop some wood and let the flames crackle. If you have a gas fireplace, uncork a bottle of wine and cozy up with a good book or someone you love and pretend it’s caveman/cavewoman days.

4. Go to the movies. There’s something magical about getting lost in a good movie when it’s cold and snowy outside.

5. When the snow stops take a walk in the moonlight. You will be amazed how brightly the moon lights up the snow, the trails and even the icicles hanging on the trees.

6. Pretend it’s not snowing by getting a hot stone massage. With hot stones placed strategically on pressure points, you’ll not only warm up but you may even feel like you’ve been transported to a tropical island.

7. Go for a walk through the aspens during the sunrise. Almost always the first snows fall when the aspen leaves are stills a golden yellow. The contrast between fall and winter is magical.

8. Take a bubble bath. There’s nothing better than a long, hot bath to take winter’s chill away.

9. Enjoy a specialty drink. If you read these blogs you know I like hot chocolate. Throw in a little peppermint schnapps and you’ll be more than ready for winter.

10. Be a kid again. Pull out a sled and fly down a snowy hill.

Every year thousands of people flock to Steamboat Springs to enjoy the leaves of the aspens turning brilliant shades of gold, orange and even red. If you are headed up to the mountains to view the fall colors there are a few things you should know.

How to prepare:
Fall temperatures in Steamboat can range from 80 degrees to 20 degrees or colder depending on the year. Oftentimes there are huge swings in the temperature in a single day. If you are heading out for a hike, bike or any other outdoor adventure be prepared:
• Stop by BAP, the little red house on Oak Street, for jackets, hats and gloves to keep you warm.
• Always take food and water. Even if you are going out for a couple of hours, you never know what can happen. Have enough food for a couple of meals.
• Let someone know where you are going and when you plan on being back.
• Take something to start a fire if you get stuck and need to stay warm.
• Take a map and a charged phone.

Where to go:
• Fish Creek Falls. If you hike up past the first waterfall for about a ½ hour to 45 minutes you’ll come to a beautiful aspen grove that literally glows gold in the fall. The hike is strenuous but well worth it.
• Little Bear Trail. This trail is located about a ¼ mile before you reach the Strawberry Park Hot Springs. The trail is also challenging, but offers wide open vistas of Strawberry Park and Steamboat as well as a changing landscape as you ascend.
• Buffalo Pass. Driving up Buffalo Pass in the fall is an ascent into beauty. You’ll experience amazing views of the surrounding area, pine trees and aspens. There are many hikes you can take from Buffalo Pass so we recommend picking up the book ‘Hiking the Boat’ from Off the Beaten Path bookstore in downtown Steamboat.

Après adventure:
After you’ve finished your adventure for the day, especially if it’s been a strenuous one, here’s how we recommend you wind down.
• Spend a little time with the locals at Sunpie’s Bistro. Try the pork, gravy and French fry sandwich with a cold beer.
• Get a Swedish massage to relax your muscles at Life Essentials Day Spa. This spa was awarded Best of the Boat several years in a row.
• Soak in the Strawberry Park Hot Springs in one of Steamboat’s most scenic settings.

Most of all enjoy your time in Steamboat this fall. It’s one of our top four favorite seasons.

It’s hard to believe, with the warm weather we’ve had, that fall is on the way but the yellow leaves drifting from the trees tell another story. Before we know it frost will be on the ground and the fall blue sky, so brilliant, will be clear above us. As the cold weather descends, we have a few tips for staying warm in Steamboat.

1. Try a Mexican Hot Chocolate from Mountain Brew. If you haven’t been to Mountain Brew on 4th and Oak Street you are missing out. Their Mexican hot chocolate has a little spiciness to heat you up on a cool day. If that’s not enough, indulge in one of their cupcakes like their Pistachio or their Chai cupcakes. You will be feeling warm and fuzzy inside before you know it.

2. Spend a night at the Steamboat Grand and soak in their outdoor salt-water hot tub and heated pool. The Steamboat Grand sits at the base of the ski mountain. Their pool and hot tub are open until 10:00 p.m. and offer a warm, relaxing place to watch the last rays of the sun fall behind Emerald Mountain.

3. Pamper Yourself with a Hot Stone Massage at Life Essentials Day Spa. To begin your massage, hot stones are placed strategically on your body to help loosen tight muscles and increase circulation and relaxation. After that, your therapist will massage your body and get your blood flowing.

4. Bike up Mt. Werner or Emerald Mountain. In the fall the gondola stops running in the daytime as the ski area ramps up for the winter season. So instead of taking the gondola up, bike up one of several trails on Mt. Werner or Emerald Mountain. There is no doubt you’ll be warm by the time you get to the top.
